About This Space
A home gym that earns its square footage begins with flooring that takes the work seriously. In this Franklin basement, the gym is finished with 5mm recycled rubber bounce flooring: the material that understands what a gym is actually used for. Rubber absorbs impact from free weights without transferring it to the concrete slab. It resists the sweat, chalk, and cleaning products that daily gym use generates without degrading or requiring replacement. At 5mm, it provides the cushion that makes barefoot and light-shoe training comfortable without the instability that heavier rubber formats can introduce under a loaded barbell.
Custom wood floating shelves provide organized storage and display along the wall without reducing the usable workout area. Natural wood in a gym is one of those material decisions that rewards the space: it prevents the room from reading as purely industrial and adds a warmth that makes daily use more enjoyable. The shelves accommodate equipment accessories, display, and the daily organization that a frequently used space requires.
The gym that resulted is one the homeowners use every day because it gives them every reason to. A home gym designed to this standard does not sit unused: it is a room that makes the decision to exercise easier, which is the only measure of success that matters in a room built for fitness.

Common Questions
Questions Homeowners Ask About This Space
What flooring is best for a home gym?
5mm recycled rubber bounce flooring is the standard choice for a serious home gym: it absorbs the impact of free weights and cardio equipment, protects the concrete slab beneath it, resists the sweat and cleaning products that daily gym use requires, and requires no special maintenance. At 5mm thickness it provides meaningful cushion without the instability that thicker rubber formats can create under weight training equipment.
What are custom wood floating shelves in a gym?
Custom wood floating shelves in a gym provide organized storage for equipment, accessories, and display without consuming floor space or requiring freestanding furniture that would compete with the workout area. Mounted directly to the wall, they keep the gym clean and uncluttered while adding the material warmth of natural wood to a room that might otherwise read as purely industrial.
How does Sebring Design Build design a home gym in Franklin, TN?
Sebring approaches a home gym as a room that needs to work hard every day: durable flooring, appropriate lighting, adequate electrical for equipment, and a clean, organized layout that motivates use rather than discouraging it. A gym that functions as a professional facility within the home is the standard. Material selections should reflect both the room's demands and its position within a designed home.
