About This Space
The Columbia primary bath was designed to be the home's most personal and most materially specific room: a space where the decision to use natural Walnut, genuine soapstone, and four distinct tile programs simultaneously was not an excess but a standard. This is a bath that earns its name unique-luxurious by building every surface from a material that rewards the attention it receives.
Walnut Natural Slab cabinetry with matching horizontal grain and a matte finish provides the vanity with the most intimate cabinetry decision in the home. Slab doors in Walnut, installed with the grain running horizontally, make the door surface read as a single continuous wood panel: the grain flows across every door without interruption, creating a vanity that reads as furniture before it reads as cabinetry. The matte finish preserves the wood's natural surface quality rather than covering it with sheen. Top Knobs Kinney 12-inch pulls in Matte Black with back plates provide the hardware: long, linear pulls in a dark finish that contrast correctly against the warm grain of the Walnut.
Soapstone Metropolis Concrete Finish with a 3-inch mitered edge and 11-inch splash provides the countertop in a natural stone with genuine geological character. The 3-inch mitered edge gives the soapstone countertop the visual weight of a much thicker slab, and the 11-inch splash carries the stone surface up the wall above the vanity, creating a continuous material plane from the countertop to the wall tile above it.
The tile program uses four materials across four applications. Bedrosians Thaddeus Cannatte Deco Taupe 24x48 in a vertical straight installation with Sahara Beige grout covers the vanity wall: a large-format decorative tile with genuine surface character that provides the room's primary vertical plane with depth and presence. Bedrosians 360 Penny Tile in Charcoal with Black grout covers the floor: small-format circular mosaic in a dark tone that grounds the room with artisan quality underfoot. Tile Bar Portmore White 3x8 in a vertical straight stack with Frost grout covers the shower walls: a clean, elongated white tile that provides the enclosure's primary surface with brightness and contemporary geometry. Tile Bar Kenridge Ribbon Maple on the shower niche back and valve wall with Pale Umber grout introduces the warm wood tone at the shower's most intimate zones, connecting the shower to the Walnut vanity through a shared material warmth.

Common Questions
Questions Homeowners Ask About This Space
What is soapstone for a bathroom countertop?
Soapstone is a natural metamorphic stone with a dense, non-porous surface that needs no sealing and resists heat, moisture, and bacteria. Its Metropolis colorway reads as a warm, concrete-toned grey with soft natural variation. In a primary bath with Walnut Natural cabinetry and a multi-tile shower program, soapstone provides the countertop with a geological authenticity and surface warmth that engineered quartz cannot replicate. It develops a natural patina over time that improves with use.
What is Bedrosians 360 Penny Tile in Charcoal?
Bedrosians 360 Penny Tile is a small-format circular mosaic tile in a Charcoal colorway. In a bathroom floor application, penny tile provides a classic, artisan-quality surface with inherent grip from its many small tiles and grout joints. Charcoal penny tile reads as sophisticated and design-conscious in a primary bath with Walnut cabinetry and natural stone countertops, providing dark tonal depth at the room's base plane.
What is Tile Bar Kenridge Ribbon Maple tile?
TileBar Kenridge Ribbon Maple is a 24x48 inch large-format wood-look porcelain with a warm maple grain in a matte finish. Used on the shower niche back and valve wall, it provides the warmth of natural wood in the shower's most intimate zones, connecting the shower program to the Walnut Natural cabinetry at the vanity through a shared warm wood tone. Its large format minimizes visible grout lines in the niche and valve wall positions.
