The Story

About This Space

A basement guest bath that reads as designed rather than merely plumbed is one of the details that separates a finished lower level from a truly elevated one. In the Bonbrook project, the guest bath received the same material attention as every other space on the floor, because a guest who uses this bathroom should feel the same quality of finish they experience in the rest of the home.

The shower wall tile is Kenridge Ribbon Maple, a large-format wood-look porcelain with a warm, natural grain that provides the visual warmth of actual wood without its susceptibility to moisture. In a basement shower that does not have windows, the warmth of this material matters more than it would anywhere else in the home. The tile fills the enclosure at a scale that minimizes visible grout and allows the wood pattern to read continuously across the wall.

The Parry Marine Blue fishscale tile is the accent: a matte surface in a deep blue-green tone placed at the vanity or in a niche to provide the one moment of color and pattern in a room otherwise built on neutrals and warm wood. Fishscale format tile has a curved edge that produces an organic, handcrafted quality no rectangular tile can achieve. In this bath, it functions as the detail that makes the room worth returning to.

Reef Cream polished subway tile on the floor provides a clean, light foundation that reflects the room's artificial lighting and makes the space feel larger than its footprint suggests. Polished finish on a floor tile in a bathroom without natural light is a considered choice: it bounces light rather than absorbing it.

Delta Okinetic shower fixtures in Matte Black carry the basement's primary fixture finish into the shower enclosure. The Okinetic series is engineered to deliver an immersive shower experience through a nozzle pattern designed to feel like more water than its flow rate requires, a functional quality that belongs in a guest bath intended to make visitors feel genuinely welcome. Kohler fixtures throughout and Delta faucets in Matte Black and Brass finishes complete the space in the same material language as the kitchenette and bar above.

Common Questions

Questions Homeowners Ask About This Space

What tile makes a basement guest bath feel elevated?

A layered tile program with a clear hierarchy works best. A warm wood-look or stone-look shower wall tile provides depth and warmth. A graphic accent tile, like a fishscale in a statement color, creates a focal moment without requiring expensive materials elsewhere. A clean, light floor tile anchors the room and reflects light in a space that often lacks natural windows.

What is Parry Marine Blue fishscale tile?

Parry Marine Blue is a matte fishscale-format tile in a deep blue-green tone that adds a bold accent note to a bathroom designed around neutral shower walls and light flooring. In a basement guest bath, it provides the one moment of color and pattern that prevents the space from reading as purely functional. The fishscale format gives it a handcrafted quality that flat field tile cannot replicate.

What is Kenridge Ribbon Maple tile?

Kenridge Ribbon Maple is a large-format wood-look porcelain tile with a warm maple grain pattern. In a shower application, it provides the visual warmth of natural wood with the moisture resistance of porcelain, a combination that makes it one of the most practical and visually sophisticated shower wall selections available for a basement bath.

Does Sebring Design Build include a guest bath in basement remodels?

Yes. Sebring Design Build designs and builds full-scope basement guest baths as part of a complete lower-level finishing project. The guest bath receives the same design attention as the primary spaces in the basement, with a coordinated tile program, quality fixtures, and a fixed-price proposal before construction begins.
