Inside the Westhaven Modern Warm Kitchen

The Westhaven kitchen had the scale to be exceptional. What it had lacked was a reason to be in it. The remodel addressed that directly, and the design program was assembled around a single organizing aspiration: warmth that earns every surface it occupies.

CWP custom cabinetry in a Marketplace Recessed door profile begins with Dune on the primary cabinets. Dune is a warm, quiet white-adjacent color that keeps the room luminous without reading as clinical. Tarragon, used on the accent cabinetry positions, introduces an earthy, muted green that provides depth and personality without demanding the room shift its palette to accommodate it. White Oak in Champagne with glass insets at the upper cabinets brings natural wood grain into the room at eye level. Clear glass in a 52 x 9.5-inch format and fluted glass in a 66 x 11.5-inch format allow the interior cabinetry and lighting to read through the doors, giving the room the layered warmth that solid cabinetry walls cannot achieve on their own.

The custom brushed brass range hood is the kitchen's most deliberate statement. At 49 inches wide and 48 inches tall, it fills the cooking wall with a presence that is architectural rather than decorative. Metal brass straps and a brass insert give the hood its artisan character: this is not a catalog item, it is a fabricated object with proportions and details chosen for this kitchen specifically. When the room asks what kind of kitchen it is, the hood answers.

Calcutta Castana quartz in a 2 cm profile covers the countertops and splash. Castana's warm gold and brown veining on a white ground pulls the natural wood, the brushed brass, and the painted cabinetry into the same material conversation. The 2 cm thickness is the correct choice at this palette weight: thin enough to keep the surfaces precise, substantial enough to read as quality.

Thin Bejmat Natural White Zellige in a 2 x 6 format, installed vertically, lines the backsplash. Each tile is handmade in Morocco from natural clay, glazed individually, and slightly different from every other tile in the installation. The vertical installation allows the tile's natural variation to express itself as movement rather than pattern, creating a backsplash that changes with the light throughout the day. It is the quality that separates a kitchen from a backdrop.

The butler's pantry is lined in Patina Siren by Kelli Fontana, an 8 x 20 glass tile installed vertically. Patina Siren is an iridescent material that shifts between warm bronze, gold, and cool silver tones depending on the angle and the light. In a dedicated bar and entertaining area with arched niches and glass shelving on solid 8-inch Keeton Satin Brass brackets, this tile creates a space that rewards the pause. The Honey Bronze Kingsmill hardware from CWP in 18-inch, 12-inch, and 7-9/8-inch pull lengths and a Kingsmill Knob completes every door and drawer in the kitchen in a warm metallic finish that connects the hood above to the hardware at hand. Antiqued Brass cremone bolts at the glass-front cabinetry introduce a vintage hardware detail that rewards close attention without requiring it.

The kitchen that resulted is the kind of room a homeowner returns to simply because it is good to be in. That is the correct standard for the most-used room in the home.
