The Story

About This Space

The Brentwood basement guest bath was designed to share the basement's modern-cool material identity rather than exist as an afterthought appended to the entertaining level. The Jeffery Alexander Alder Black vanity in solid Alder wood with a Black finish connects the guest bath to the bar's Matte Black cabinetry program through a shared dark finish that reads as coordinated rather than matching. Corian Coarse Carrara Polished quartz on the vanity countertop provides the same countertop material as the bar: a deliberate design decision that connects the two spaces through a shared horizontal surface and creates a material coherence between the bar and the bath that makes the basement floor read as completely designed. Kohler Caxton White at the sink and Kohler Hygiene Classic White at the toilet complete the bathroom's primary fixtures in white: the correct choice in a room with a dark vanity and a patterned floor, providing the bright, clean contrast the room's darker surfaces require. Virginia Tile Deco Anthology 8x8 porcelain in a Black, Grey, and White color combination on the floor provides the bathroom's most visually active surface: a geometric pattern in the three neutral tones that connect directly to the room's Black vanity and White fixtures. The 8x8 format reads as classic and considered, a tile size and pattern that earns the name elegant without requiring the word modern to do the work for it.

Common Questions

Questions Homeowners Ask About This Space

What is Jeffery Alexander Alder Black vanity?

Jeffery Alexander is a furniture-style vanity manufacturer whose Alder collection uses solid Alder wood construction in a Black finish. In a basement guest bath with a Matte Black bar visible from the main floor, a Black Alder vanity connects the two spaces through a shared dark finish program that reads as intentional rather than coincidental. The furniture-style vanity construction provides the bathroom with a piece of quality that most builder-grade bathroom vanities do not deliver.

What is Virginia Tile Deco Anthology tile?

Virginia Tile Deco Anthology is an 8x8 inch porcelain tile available in a multi-color pattern combining Black, Grey, and White. In a bathroom floor application, the geometric Deco pattern with three colors provides movement and visual interest at the room's base plane without requiring a complex installation pattern. The combination of Black, Grey, and White connects to the bathroom's Black vanity and White sink while bridging both through the grey midtone.
