The Story

About This Space

The Cool Springs kitchen arrived as a room that had made a set of decisions in an earlier decade and then stopped deciding. Black granite countertops, dark cabinetry finishes, a clunky overhead light fixture, and an island cluttered with wine storage in finishes that no longer belonged to the home: the brief for its transformation was not complicated. Remove the darkness. Introduce the warmth. Make it feel like the home it is.

Havana Square Recessed MDF Panel cabinetry with Marginal Overlay and 1/8-inch Radius edge treatment provides the perimeter in soft white painted cabinetry with a Dull Rubbed Varnish finish and a door profile that has the crafted quality of a traditional cabinet with the clean geometry of a transitional one. UV Plywood interior construction ensures the cabinet boxes perform over decades of daily use. Havana Recessed Panel drawers carry the same profile to the drawer faces, maintaining the room's visual consistency at every horizontal surface. The paneled hood blends seamlessly into the cabinetry above the range, eliminating the contrast that a separate hood material would introduce and extending the white cabinetry program to the room's focal cooking wall.

The island is the kitchen's defining material statement. Custom-built in natural wood, it provides the warm, organic counterpoint that the soft white perimeter cabinetry calls for: a surface with the grain variation and material warmth of real wood, integrated wine storage that gives the island its purpose beyond workspace, and a wine refrigerator panel that keeps the appliance within the island's visual composition rather than beside it. Taj Mahal polished quartzite on the countertops provides the horizontal surfaces in a natural stone with soft, golden veining on a warm white-cream ground: the material quality of a genuine geological surface that no engineered quartz fully replicates.

Kohler Artifacts pull-down faucet in Vibrant French Gold and the matching wall-mount pot filler above the range bring the kitchen's fixture program into a single warm, rich gold finish at both the sink and the cooking wall. The Blanco Precis Soft White double bowl sink provides the workspace in a finish that connects naturally to the soft white cabinetry above it. Brizo Polished Gold disposal flange and strainer complete the sink installation in a warm metallic finish that reads as consistent with the French Gold faucet without demanding a perfect match. Coffered ceilings add architectural scale to the room's vertical plane, drawing the eye upward and making the kitchen feel proportioned to its role as the home's most-used space. Statement pendant lights in warm brass within the coffered grid provide the room's primary task and ambient lighting in a fixture finish that completes the French Gold material thread.

The kitchen that resulted is a room the household gathers in because it rewards being in. That is the correct outcome for a kitchen remodel of this scope.

Common Questions

Questions Homeowners Ask About This Space

What is Taj Mahal quartzite?

Taj Mahal is a natural quartzite from Brazil with a warm white-to-cream ground and soft, flowing golden veining that references the translucent warmth of the stone it is named for. Unlike quartz, Taj Mahal is a natural stone that requires sealing and periodic maintenance, but its visual warmth and depth are qualities that no engineered surface fully replicates. In a kitchen with soft white cabinetry and French Gold fixtures, Taj Mahal quartzite provides countertops that are the room's most visually alive horizontal surface.

What is Kohler Artifacts Vibrant French Gold?

Kohler Artifacts is a faucet collection designed around the handcrafted quality of antique plumbing fixtures, with articulated lever handles and a distinctive arched spout. Vibrant French Gold is a warm, rich gold finish with a depth that reads as genuinely precious rather than simply yellow. In a kitchen with natural wood, warm white cabinetry, and quartzite countertops, French Gold is the fixture finish that connects all three materials through a shared warm metallic tone. The matching wall-mount pot filler above the range extends this finish to the cooking wall.

What is a coffered ceiling in a kitchen remodel?

A coffered ceiling is a ceiling with a recessed grid pattern formed by intersecting beams, creating a series of sunken panels. In a kitchen, coffered ceilings add architectural scale and visual interest that a flat ceiling cannot provide, drawing the eye upward and making the room feel taller and more composed. Statement pendant lights in warm brass installed within the coffered grid complete the architectural upgrade and provide both task and ambient lighting.
